How come, in older cartoons, brunettes were always either conniving b*tches (Veronica, Alexandra from "Josie & the Pussycats") or nerds like Velma from "Scooby Doo?"

As a brunette, I was always disappointed as a kid because all the role models and pretty girls - Betty, Josie, Daphne - were blondes or readheads.
